Gabriel Carrer (PGC) is a Canadian writer/director carries an absorbing fleet of styles adapted from Hollywood, but reflects and twists them into the independent cinema. He maintains a fresh and innovative voice in the Canada genre landscape, both appealing to the underground filmmaking community and the mainstream.
At the age of 23 with his DIY ethos, he directed his first film Desperate Souls (2005) which was released by Lions Gate and Alliance Atlantis. Years later, his uncompromising mentality allowed him to direct Kill (2007) (Troma Entertainment, U.S), If A Tree Falls (2010) (Scanbox Entertainment, UK) (Black Fawn Distribution, CAN) and in 2011 he produced/directed In the House of Flies (2012), which placed rock icon and social commentator, Henry Rollins as the antagonist.
His 2010 film, If A Tree Falls, had its world premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival and it’s U.S premiere at the Terror In the Aisles 7 at the historical Portage Theatre in Chicago. It also aired premiered on the Super Channel. The film was conceived to be a stylized throwback 70’s genre film and considering it’s low budget, the film quickly became notable in certain cult film circles who celebrate exploitation and grindhouse cinema. The film utilizes present day sensibilities relevant to the standards of today’s psychological thrillers and horror films. The entire film was produced, shot, edited, scored and directed by Gabriel. It was written by Ryan Barrett who also stars in the film.
Having directed over 60 music videos across North America, some videos highlighted in the beginning of his career include the direction for Swollen Members, California based punk rock band Hed p.e, Europe’s/U.K artist Leeroy Thornhill’s Smash HI FI formerly of the world-renowned The Prodigy and Blue Felix’s hit single “Middle Finger” featuring Sid Wilson from metal icons Slipknot.
He is also a member of the Bleeding Apple Collective, a Canadian film collective.
In 2011, Carrer and filmmaker Chad Archibald formed Black Fawn Distribution, a company devoted to film distribution across Canada.
